Treatment Resistant Depression Help

Treatment Resistant Depression Help

If you've done what you were supposed to do and the depression is still there, this page is for you.

Depression that doesn't respond to standard treatment is one of the most demoralizing experiences a person can face, and ketamine assisted therapy at Get Centered Wellness in Bel Air, MD is specifically designed for people who are in exactly that place. The practice is self-pay and out-of-network, serves adults throughout Harford County and the greater Maryland area, and structures KAP as a multi-step process that includes psychological screening, medical consultation, preparation sessions, dosing, and integration.

When You've Already Tried Everything and It Still Hasn't Moved

You went to therapy. You tried medication, maybe more than one. You did the things that are supposed to help. And the depression is still there, muted sometimes, and then back, heavy and familiar, settling in like it belongs.

This isn't a failure of effort or character. For a meaningful number of people, standard approaches don't create the relief they're designed to create. The reasons vary, but the experience is the same: you're doing everything right, and it's not enough.

What you're describing has a name, and there are approaches specifically developed for it. The question is whether you've had access to them.

Why Standard Treatment Sometimes Falls Short

Antidepressants and talk therapy work well for many people. But both approaches primarily target symptoms and thought patterns, and for some people, those pathways don't produce the shift needed.

Depression that hasn't responded to multiple treatments often involves deeper disruptions in how the brain processes mood, motivation, and meaning. Getting ahead of it often requires something that operates at a different level.

For people in Bel Air whose depression hasn't responded to standard treatment, ketamine assisted therapy works through a different mechanism entirely, targeting neuroplasticity rather than managing symptoms week to week.

Unlike antidepressants or conventional talk therapy, KAP therapy pairs ketamine dosing sessions with psychotherapy to help clients process insights and sustain the shifts that emerge.

How the Process Works at Get Centered Wellness

KAP at Get Centered Wellness is structured and carefully supervised. The process begins with a psychological screening appointment with Michelle Perry, PhD, who completed a rigorous one-year postgraduate training with the Integrative Psychiatry Institute.

If cleared psychologically, clients then complete a medical consultation through Journey Clinical to assess health history and eligibility. Once approved, a personalized treatment plan and prescription are provided, and clients complete one to three preparation sessions before any dosing begins.

Dosing sessions last between one and three hours and take place in a calm, comfortable in-person setting at the practice's location at 139 N Main St, STE 305 in Bel Air. Integration sessions follow each dosing session, with Dr. Perry meeting with clients up to four times to process insights and determine next steps. The practice serves adults from across Harford County, including Forest Hill, Fallston, and Havre de Grace.

Questions People Ask When They've Reached This Point

Is ketamine safe? I've heard mixed things.

Ketamine is an FDA-approved medication with decades of medical use. At low doses in a supervised clinical setting, it has a well-established safety record and is specifically used off-label for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and related conditions. The KAP process at Get Centered Wellness includes both psychological and medical screening before any dosing takes place, and all sessions are conducted in a monitored, supportive environment. The concern is understandable, and the safeguards are real.

I've tried antidepressants and they either didn't work or I couldn't tolerate them. Is this different?

Yes. Ketamine works through a completely different mechanism than traditional antidepressants. Rather than targeting serotonin or dopamine, it affects glutamate receptors and increases neuroplasticity, which can create new pathways for mood regulation and emotional processing. People who haven't responded to multiple antidepressants often find that KAP reaches what medication alone couldn't.

How quickly does it work, and will it last?

Ketamine can produce noticeable shifts in mood within hours or days of a dosing session, which is meaningfully faster than conventional antidepressants. Whether those shifts are lasting depends on the individual, the number of sessions, and how well the integration work is done. The combination of dosing and dedicated integration sessions is specifically designed to support lasting change rather than temporary relief.
